Palemon Paz, son of María del Refugio Arenas and Antonio Paz, was born in Santa Cruz de las Flores, Jalisco, Mexico, on January 11, 1923. He passed away in Escondido, California, on January 17, 2022, at the venerable age of 99. In recent years, Palemon's battle with various medical issues showcased his courage to face life's challenges with unwavering positivity. He remained strong to the very end.
In 1943, when Palemon was 20 years old, he arrived in the United States under a contract to work on farms during WWII. He collaborated with immigrants of diverse nationalities, supporting the establishment of railroad infrastructure across the nation. Later, he embarked on an 18-year career with Kal Kan.
In 1958, Palemon met Eliacer Vargas in Villa Corona, Jalisco, Mexico. The two married in 1960 and were blessed with seven wonderful children: Patricia, Elda, Ricardo, Oscar, Nancy, Julia, and Adriana. In 1978, Palemon faced the heartbreaking loss of Eliacer in a car accident, leaving him to care for their young children. With unwavering dedication, he tirelessly worked to provide for his family.
By 1988, Palemon retired from Kal Kan and later married Teresa Ortiz. The couple settled in Villa Corona, immersing themselves in the joys of retirement. They traveled, gardened, and reveled in the company of their ever-growing family. Sadly, after 11 years of marital bliss, Teresa succumbed to cancer in 2000.
Throughout his life, Palemon weathered immense hardships. His resilience and unwavering faith in God made him a shining beacon of perseverance and fortitude. He cherished his relationship with God, serving Him devoutly each day.
Palemon is survived by his seven children—Patricia (Rodrigo), Elda (Anyelo), Ricardo (Irene †), Oscar (Mina), Nancy, Julia (Rick), and Adriana (Luis)—as well as 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido, CA, on January 26, 2022. Viewing will be available from 4 PM to 8 PM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Los Angeles, CA, on January 27, 2022, at 1:30 PM.
